Oh gosh, oh gosh! Mystery Date's new single "You and Your Sister" b/w "Lightspeed Romance / The One That You Really Want" is now available for pre-order!
It's currently being pressed in Nashville, with a projected early April release date. As we all wait excitedly, let's discuss the finer points of this record.
- It's really good power-pop in the same vein as The Jam, Buzzcocks, Only Ones, Soft Boys. But nobody is making music like this anymore except Mystery Date. And they do it very well.
- Mystery Date are really nice guys! Johnny Eggerman plays guitar and sings, Grady Appleton plays drums, and Steve Splettstazer plays bass and sings back-up vocals.
- It sounds really good. It was recorded by Neil Weir at Old Blackberry Way and mastered at Old Colony. Really, I don't think it could sound better. It's a trio captured at their best and tightest.
- When Johnny plays a guitar solo, it isn't overdubbed. There's just a bass, drums and 1 guitar. I like that a lot.
- Johnny designed the artwork, and it looks really cool. Also, every copy of the 7" will be a little bit different with hand-coloring. Eli Hansen from Real Numbers designed the center labels and it looks really cool, too.
- "Lightspeed Romance" features a count-down AND rocket ship noises.
